The Well Irish Pub and restaurant.

[ The magnificent entrance on the 2nd floor at Rupa’s mall]

Having have spent more than Two and a half years in Eldoret, I have always been searching for a place ‘ an heaven’ where I could just walk into on a Friday night with my boyfriend and have that cool relaxing drink as we watch tele or discuss ideas.

We hadn’t found one in those two years till yesterday when we walked into the Well Irish Pub restaurant at around 8.20 pm. The environment was calm and welcoming and the air was filled with the unforgettable yet welcoming aroma of food and alcohol.

We walked to the balcony hoping to see the night view of Eldoret town but to our disappointment, it wasn’t clearly visible. The balcony is specially designed to soot cigar smoking so we opted for an indoor seating since we treasure our privacy.

[Barman’s mocktail]

The well is famous for its Irish dishes and their Mocktail& cocktails and I just couldn’t wait to sip on one. I ordered their English Fish and mushy Peas with mashed potatoes while my man preferred to take ugali with chicken curry. For drinks I ordered a Barman’s Mocktail while my man ordered a glass of sweet red wine.

I must confess that the place was heavenly. The seats were comfortable enough for me to forget that I wasn’t home. Their menu is alittle bit expensive though the food is worth every penny. The bill is usually inclusive of 16%VAT and 2% Tourism Fund.

[English Fish and mushypeas with mashed potatoes]
The food took approximately 20 minutes to be prepared and the taste was unforgettable. The English Fish just melted into my mouth and the mushy Peas just had the right constistency. The mashed potatoes were also nicely done and the salad was fresh and crunchy.

The Irish pub is definitely a place that I would recommend to anyone who wants style, privacy and comfort all in one place. I definitely found my little heaven away from home and my go to eat out place in Eldoret.

Seagull Coffee Garden review.

[The cosy sitting area at the seagull coffee gardens]

From the highway, the seagull coffee gardens resembles an ordinary coffee garden but it’s nothing like that! Located in Juja, Kiambu County afew meters away from JKUAT along the Thika super highway, the restaurant is a must go for all food lovers out there who are hoping to experience something new.

[Entrance]

We wondered in on a Wednesday night at around 8.30pm with my mum and sister and were immediately greeted by a joyous gateman as he opened the huge black gates to let us in. The environment was inviting. The flower bushes and trees had blossomed to the fullest and the garden lights were fully lit.

We passed by a group of business people probably closing a deal as they sipped on the famous Seagull coffee and the aroma was inviting.

We opted for an outdoor space where we would have the courtesy of enjoying our own company in between laughs and story sharing. As soon as we were settled a smiling waitress approached welcoming us to the garden as she offered us the menu. I must admit that the prices are quite pocket friendly and they also offer a wide variety of foods.

We each ordered a full plate of chips and some marinated chicken. The fries were crunchy and delicious and the chicken; it just melted into my mouth. the spices were just right;not overdone and worked together beautifully. The constistency was just right with minimum oil. By the end of the meal, we were already planning for our next visit this time probably to enjoy their famous goat meat.

[The night view when the garden lights are on]

We had an amazing time at the coffee garden. Wonderful interiors, cosy seats, perfect services and very good dining too. Must recommend the coffee garden to all food lovers. Very reasonably priced too for such a fancy place.

My experience at Mt Kenya-Chogoria route(day 1).

We set out on a cold morning at 5.00 am for our journey from Chogoria town heading to The Mt Kenya Chogoria gate. The town was deserted considering that they don’t operate on a 24 hour work-time. I had been challenged to join my cousins in climbing the famous Mt.Kenya. Mt Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and is widely known for being a hideout place for the maumau during the colonial period.

The drive from Chogoria town to the mt.kenya gate was long but worth it. The terrain was rough but we managed to see the famous Mugumo tree along the way and it’s height was woowing. Guided by our guide, we cleared up at the Chogoria gate and our long awaited climb started.

PS:The Chogoria route is the most challenging route while climbing the mountain thus people are advised to use the Narumoru route which is quite safe.

Walking through the mt kenya Forest was breathtaking. The breeze and shade provided by the trees was calming; we could hear the birds chirping happily and I couldn’t help but think of how grateful I was to be there. We passed by a couple of clear streams and we could see trout fishes swimming in them. Wait…did I mention that the water tastes way better than the bottled water that am used to drinking?

40minutes later, the weather was no longer cool and welcoming. We were getting higher the mountain and my body was sweating. I consumed more water than I had for the past three days.”uko juu Kuna baridi”-it’s cold up there -our guide always encouraged us. I won’t lie that I didn’t consider quiting the climb multiple times.

Just like our guide assured us,the higher we went, the cooler it became.About an hour later, we made it to the moorland vegetation and the climb became more interesting. The views were becoming awesome and worthwhile.

[Lake Elise in the back view]

Lake Elise was our first stop and it really was chilly. The water was ice-cold thus people aren’t allowed to swim in it. We set our tents for the night but since it was only around 3pm,we opted to visit the historic mt kenya Caves. (You need really warm clothing for this since the weather is quite chilly).

The caves are located near the nithi falls which are breathtaking. The terrain is slippery and in most cases the area receives hailstones which I must admit is quite an awesome experience. We also enjoyed trout fishing at lake Elise later in the evening; which we had for supper.

PS:The Mt Kenya route is highly recommended for adventurous people.
โ€ขHikers are also advised on being physically fit before using the Chogoria route.

Making a blueberry and banana smoothie.(RECIPE)

To be frank, very few people know that am a foodie ; am actually a complete addict of sweet and good looking food;-and I ain’t gonna apologize for it๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‹. Being a campus student,I don’t get the chance to cook my own food as regularly as I would love to. I however take time to appreciate other people’s cooking and this week am appreciating Patrick Gitau’s SMOOTHIE recipe. To be frank, when I first tried to make this smoothie,I wasn’t really sure if it would turn out to be this great but the end result shocked me. The smoothie just melts into ones mouth and doesn’t disappoint at all. Trust me when I say this coz I have tasted lots of smoothies that tasted like diluted berries in milk.

Ingredients.

1/2 cup blueberries.

2 frozen bananas.

I orange juice(squeezed).

For garnish

Chia seeds.

A ripe banana.

A couple of blueberries.

Method.

Place the blueberries and banana in a blender. Sprinkle the Orange juice till you get a creamy texture.

Cut the banana into small-sizes and garnish the smoothie by sprinkling the banana slices, chia seeds and blueberries on the smoothie.

Enjoy your delicious smoothie.

PS:- This smoothie is really easy to make and perfectly healthy for consumption by anyone.

Poa place-Places to visit in Eldoret.

Ever wondered where to take your friends for a breather in Eldoret? Where to hangout with your family on weekends? Where to take a walk;have some alone time while enjoying nature? Well,I have the perfect place for you.

I visited poa place gardens over the weekend with my sister (Victoria)and of course considering that she was in Eldoret for visit, she was really thrilled when I suggested the place.

The drive was short since it’s located less than 5km from eldoret town along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway. The entry fee per person is usually 150kenyan shillings, which is quite pocket friendly considering that the experience is worth it.

[Outside the famous Nandi homestead]

You can choose to have a guided tour but we opted for a self-guided tour. Every animal is caged with a label explaining about it placed on the cage. They house different types of wildlife ranging from different types of monkeys, birds, lions, cheetah, tortoises to crocodiles and lizards.

The most amazing part of the park is the snake park where they house different types of snakes. Each snake is labelled according to it’s characteristics. For instance,I didn’t know that some snakes are harmless. I still can’t think of how many harmless snakes have left me screaming and running for my life.

The cultural huts are also breathtaking and you get to learn so much about the kenyan culture. The poa place resort gives visitors a chance to enjoy recreational facilities and lots of awesome food. There also is a swimming pool which just makes you wonna take a dive in the cool inviting water; considering that Eldoret is quite hot during the day.

PS;The food there is really amazing and the place is recommendable for families outings.
